Images from the Soul
This group of 50 late color photographs entitled Images from the Soul, from a series the artist produced for himself and kept, quite literally, under his bed, was intended to be Parks’ next artistic statement. This unrealized exhibiton and book project was cut short when the artist took very ill and passed suddenly in March 2006. An important voice of the African-American community throughout our recent history and an innovative American image-maker at large, Parks’ vision began with strife and suffering, and ended here, in this late lifetime series, which offers the viewer a graceful and transcendent glimpses into his soul.
